Susan Capestro
has taught keyboard, music composition and electronic music to pro, semi-pro and avocational students for over 25 years. Also a composer and ASCAP special awards winner, Capestro has penned a collection of art music, for "real" musicians, as well as music for video and corporate clients. She is particularly excited about having composed the very first, or at least one of the world’s first, concert pieces for piano and synthesizer duet, Tropism, commissioned by MMTA. Capestro performs as a soloist and collaborative pianist, in a wide variety of musical styles, from soup to nuts. She has appeared on a jazz CD with Muse Stew, toured as a keyboard player with African musicians Ibrahima Camara and Mamadou Diop, played piano and organ for churches and swing bands, and performed in traditional recitals with symphony players. Capestro was recognized for her music by her high school and the state of New Jersey, receiving the Point Pleasant Beach Public Education Foundation's Hall of Fame Award in 1999. She holds degrees from Ithaca College and Northwestern University.

"Susan Capestro is a tremendously innovative musician and teacher.  She is inspiring and highly motivating.  It is impossible to work with heron a piece and not come away from the experience with a deeper appreciation for the composer's craft." - Prof. Linda Holzer, University of Arkansas-Little Rock

“I have the utmost respect for Susan Capestro's teaching. Pianists would do well to entrust their musical development to Susan.”
- Charlie Banacos

"I can't think of anyone better than Susan to study with. My kids always look forward to their lessons and leave with a big smile. She is the kind of person you want teaching your kids.”
- Dennis and Elana Markovitz

“Sue Capestro is a highly skilled pianist, composer, and arranger – a true all-around musician. Of all the people I know who work with MIDI equipment, she’s one of the few who can write for real instruments. Her orchestral compositions and arrangements are some of the best I’ve heard.”
- Peter Karl, WNET-TV and Peter Karl Studios

“Susan’s a wonderful composer, and has a real creative flair for orchestration and arranging. And on top of that, she’s really fun to work with…she’s always done a superb job. Sue Capestro is a top-notch pro.”
- James Romeo

“Susan Capestro's teaching style is innovative and deep.  She is knowledgeable, supportive and upbeat, and makes learning about piano and music in general an intense, positive, and fun experience.”
- Willa Trevens

“"I took lessons from Susan Capestro starting when I was 7.  I'm now 26. Over the years, two things have stuck with me: the solid keyboard techniques that Susan taught me from the beginning, and her infectious love of the piano.  It's scary to think that if I had had a different teacher, one that wasn't so willing to present me with a variety of classical and contemporary material to keep me engaged, I may have lost out on what has become one of my lifelong passions."
- Eric Strathmeyer, Keyboards, Funkfoot

"Among the qualities I most appreciate about Susan Capestro - in addition to the outstanding talent and wide-ranging knowledge she brings to her teaching of piano - is her ability both to inspire and to enable her students to achieve ambitious musical goals."
-  an adult keyboard student

"I started studying piano as an adult because I was frustrated; what I was hearing in my head, I couldn't reproduce with my fingers. Susan Capestro has made a major contribution in bridging that gap."
- Vin D’Agostino, adult keyboard student

"A winning personality...teaches a well-rounded music education with excellence, fun and joy."
– Elisha Frank, adult student

"Susan is patient, intelligent, thorough and very supportive. Through her genuine love of piano and of teaching, she has given me a lot"
- Carl Kay, adult beginning student

"Marvelously talented
Unusually versatile
Seriously committed
Incredibly patient
Constantly enthusiastic
Susan is music!"
- Carol Griffin, adult piano student
