WHAT ARE SOME OF THE ADVANTAGES OF GROUP LESSONS FOR ADULT PIANO STUDENTS WHO ARE JUST BEGINNING TO LEARN IMPROVISATION?
Group lessons are a wonderful format for teaching improvisation to adult keyboard students, for many reasons. For instance, when participants play ensemble style, on two, three or even four different keyboards at once, they can easily support each other. Since each student is busy playing his or her particular part, the person with the improvised part doesn’t necessarily feel as though all the attention is on him or her.
Teaching different forms and styles of keyboard improvisation is often more efficiently done (and a lot more fun) within a class format, instead of via one student at a time in a private lesson. The interests of the class members may vary, so the range of styles to begin with can vary greatly.
