Why is the major five finger pattern ("5F") so important in keyboard music?
- Playing them is an efficient warmup; you get double, even triple duty out of it.
- They are terrific finger exercises.
- They give you the first 5 notes of a major scale.
- Their notes, 1, 3 and 5, form the root position triad.
- Lower the middle note of one, and voila, you have the minor 5F and minor root position triad.
- Best of all, 5F's are easy to teach and easy to learn.
