Some improvisations, including this one, sound wonderfully simple, yet many pianists find it difficult to begin coordinating the right hand with the left. What's a good way to practice this improvisation? How is it possible for you to "program" your hands to play it? This video demonstrates plenty of ideas.

Many of my students, including intermediate level adults, have enjoyed this one. After the first couple weeks of slow, simple assignments, it's fun to hear what they do with it. I've also introduced it to students who've never improvised. It pairs well with other pieces in the key of Db major, such as the Chopin "Raindrop" Prelude, Opus. 28 No. 15.

You can find notated examples of practice ideas for this improvisation in the downloads section of the site.
